A Tale of Three Cities

We will always protect some things more passionately than others. Those ‘some things’ are different for different people. In my case, I am protective about my ideas.

There are only three cities in the world.

My definition of a city is slightly different from the common social or literal definition. My definition of a city is the one that has a spirit of its own. It has a soul. It is alive. More than the people that make the city (and of course the infrastructure or lack thereof), the city has its own soul. The city as I see it – is extremely vibrant, busy and active. It is always on. The city doesn’t sleep, nor do the dwellers. You get everything in the city – from contraband gutka to compressed carbon from De Beers.

This city is very unique in character from any other so-called city in the same country.

These cities have a strong public transport system; not necessarily in the best of the health – but it works just fine. It does all that it needs to do. Each city is a micro version of the entire world. There are people from all over the world. More skin colours than your 16 million colour display can display.

These three cities are the most ruthless of all. But only here can any dream come true. And people come by the millions chasing their dreams. The city will break your back if you don’t believe in your dreams. It teaches you the value of believing in your dream. It is unforgiving if you wait for the city to make your dream come true. It is only a platform to make the reality that you imagined. But there are undocumented rules. You need to learn them.

In recent times and the past these three cities have been severely hurt by conflicting ideas. In recent times and the past, these three cities have not allowed the pain to cripple them.

From east to west, in this world, there are only three cities: Mumbai, London, and New York.

These cities are ideas in themselves of any imaginable future, limited only by the people who own the city.

We will always protect some things more passionately than others. Those ‘some things’ are different for different people. In my case, I am protective about my ideas. This post came up quickly, because someone actually ‘threatened’ that this idea would get ’stolen’ if it didn’t find its place on the blog in five days. Sealed and delivered. Safe.

It’s a very powerful idea for sure. The first time I read this post I’d only been to Mumbai and did wonder why only three. But this last weekend I was in New York and found fresh belief in the three city theory, even without having set foot in London.
